Khayim Shoys [English: Hayyim Schauss]
(1884-1953) was a journalist, teacher and historian who
devoted much of his creative energies to translating and explicating books
of the Tanakh (The Hebrew Scriptures), especially the Prophets. His The Prophets of Israel, a two-volume
study and translation of Amos, Hosea, Isaiah, Micah (Book One, New York:
Farband Publishing Company, 1942) and Zephania, Nahum, Jeremia.(Book Two,
New York: Farband Publishing Company, 1951) are representative of his
work. He is especially known for his book on the Jewish holidays, which
was translated from Yiddish to English. Here we give several passages
of Shoys's translation of Jeremiah from the above-cited work. |
